Having
opened in September 1999 Pier 36 has gone from strength to strength.
Situated right on the quayside of one of the most picturesque harbours
on the coast, Pier 36 attracts visitors from all over the world.
Proprietor Denis Waterworth is the first to admit that it’s
unique setting gives Pier 36 a fantastic advantage. “Donaghadee
harbour is simply a beautiful place to visit all year round and
our location puts us right in the thick of the action. The local
lifeboat is moored a hundred yards away underneath one of the most
photographed lighthouses in Ireland. The harbour is home to many
fishing boats, giving us access to a wealth of local seafood and
the ability to serve it the day it is caught.”
Pier
36’s success has not gone unnoticed, within six weeks of opening
it earned the title of “Northern Irish Seafood Pub of the
Year.” Since then, further awards have followed including
a highly commended nomination for “Best Catering” in
the 2001 BA Tourism Awards, the “Best Ulster Welcome”
award at the Northern Ireland Tourism & Travel Awards (October
2000).A coveted “Pub Oscar” from the FRLT was added
to this impressive list of accolades in 2002. 2004/05 saw us pick
up the "pub of the year award" from the N. Ireland tourist
board.
As
if all this wasn't enough, 2005 saw recognition on a national scale,
The BBC named Pier 36 as one of th UK's top 30 gastropubs, The Guardian
newspaper listed us as being in the UK's top 6 fish restaurants
and there were further mentions in the the Daily Telegraph and the
Sunday Times.
As
well as all of this, we make we are proud to make annual appearances
in many prestegious guide books. these include: The Michelin guide,
John and Sally Mckenna's Bridgestone guide, Les Routiers and many
more.
The
recipe for success at Pier 36 is fresh local produce prepared with
a modern twist and exceptional service, which takes care of visitors
from all over Ireland and much further a field.
